1. A critical period in human life, or a period in which some great change is supposed to take place in the human constitution. According to some, every seventh year is climacterical; according to others the years got by multiplying 7 into the odd numbers 3, 5, 7, and 9, to which a few add the 81st year. The grand climacteric is the 63rd year. These years have also been supposed to influence the fortunes of a man as well as his life. See Climax.
